Midi Makers

Hi everybody, nice to see a community of MIDI makers. I'm a music major in college right now, but my experience with music started by dissecting MIDI files on my computer, so MIDI is kind of my comfort zone when it comes to composing and even just thinking about music theoretically. So what kind of music does everybody listen to/write. I listen to a lot of jazz and world music, personally, and the music I write is pretty much the same sound, with a lot of pop influence, too. Here's a sample of my work. Also what kind of software/hardware does everybody use? I'm operating on some low-end stuff here, WinJammer shareware for sequencing and WinGroove for playback.

Heya, welcome to the community. What college you attending? I plan on heading to Berklee within the next two years.

As for software, i'm just running Tabit. a Guitar Tab program. But it still works really good.

The type of music I listen/write spans from classical to metal.

And as for your midi, that's awesome. I'd love to hear more from ya man. :)

I'm at UIC in Chicago -- 25,000 undergrads and only 50 of them intend to get music degrees, so it's a small music department. I would like to go to a school like Northeastern or Goucher where I could get a degree in electronic/computer music, but I figure this is better for me since I am still covering the basics (plus, it's cheap as hell!).

I listened to your midi you posted and it rocks man. definitely hit me up with some more. -- JazzticMeasures on AIM. Peace.

True, we plan on taking Community college for a start at music as well. Dan and I are going in together.
